Founded in 2021, La Esquina TX is a non-partisan, independent online local news website committed to factual, in-depth, data-driven, explanatory, and investigative reporting on consumer issues, housing, immigration, politics, crime, education; local, and government.
Our commitment to data-driven journalism ensures that local and governmental stories are analyzed in depth.
La Esquina TX sets itself apart from other local news teams with its solutions-oriented approach. Spanish-speaking viewers are already actively participating by submitting cases for investigation through their “Preséntanos tu caso” (Present your case) initiative.
La Esquina TX’s dedication to in-depth journalism was recognized at the Fort Worth chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists’ 21st SPJ-FW First Amendment Awards. The piece, “Cryptofx: Mauricio Chavez, accused of multi-million dollar fraud, now charged with civil contempt,” won in the Investigative-Spanish Language Print/Online under 100,000 category.
La Esquina TX was selected as a finalist for the LION: Local Independent Online News Publishers LION Awards 2024 and LION Awards 2025 Product of the Year Award
This award celebrated the development of a successful and creative product that strengthens an organization’s journalistic impact, financial health, and/or operational resilience.
La Esquina TX created “Preséntanos Tu Caso” to empower the Spanish-speaking immigrant community to report consumer fraud and seek recourse. Through an online form and dedicated phone line, users can submit complaints about scams, fraudulent businesses, and other consumer issues they have faced.
The La Esquina TX team then comprehensively investigates each case, working tirelessly to help victims recover their lost money or connect them with the proper legal authorities. In the past year, the service has facilitated the recovery of more than $60,000 for readers who fell victim to fraud schemes.

We are a fast-paced online publication that pledges to produce high-quality journalism to empower Spanish speakers. Our mission is to inform, educate, and provide the necessary tools so that our community, home to the fourth largest Latino population in the United States, can empower itself in the face of complex social situations.
VISION
We value integrity, transparency, public trust, and quality over quantity. We aim for truth, depth, context and analysis, not virality, online engagement and speed. Our goal is to produce the best possible journalism in Spanish. We do that with the help of our sponsors and readers.
WHY AN LLC?
We believe an LLC model is the most immediate, less expensive, and effortless way to get off the ground. We wanted a prompt and immediate way to obtain legal and financial protection while building an audience and developing our community independent digital newsroom.
At this point, we want to maintain our voice as a news organization.
Like a nonprofit, we would like to rely on grants and member support but simultaneously be able to sell advertisement to increase revenue.
